Rainbow birthday party a smash hit

Brightly colored balloons, cakes, cupcakes, and streamers are the first things that come to mind when someone says rainbow themed party.

Many moms and dads love the idea of taking a simple theme like the rainbow and finding fun and creative ways to incorporate it into a child’s birthday party.

As long as there are colors splashed all over the backyard or rented event hall kids will feel immersed in a sunshine rainbow world.

Rainbow Birthday Party Ideas

Starting out, set the stage with lots and lots of helium filled balloons that will be tied to chairs, tables, and even weighted down at entrance ways so kids can walk through a curtain of balloons.

The main table that will have the birthday cake and place settings should also have a balloon center piece. However one envisions balloons on the table is fine only be sure to include the colors of the rainbow; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. If indigo isn’t an option a darker blue or leaving that color out of the scheme is fine.

Decorations can be cutout rainbows tacked onto walls or used as place settings with each child’s name on it to designate where they sit.

A parent could also make rainbow name tags for each child as they arrive at the party. Scattered around the tables jars full of multi-colored gumballs, M&Ms, Skittles, Pixie Stix and Dot candy will add a little flair and can be eaten as the party continues.

Another idea would be to have multicolored Jell-O in squares arranged on plates for appetizers as well.

For Cakes and Ice Creams

For Cakes:

  • When having the cake ordered or baking it at home, layer the cake whether it be circular or square.
  • Use food coloring in white cake mix and make as many layers as possible but make sure when the cake is cut, the layers display a rainbow.

For ice cream:

  • Make certain rainbow sprinkles are used over vanilla or chocolate.
  • Color is important there can never be too much.

Rainbow Birthday Party Games Ideas

Have children play musical chairs that are covered in painted balloons or have balloons tied to them. Wrap horses in ribbons for that game and for craft time have cut out rainbow colors in blue, green, yellow, red, orange, and purple so that kids can glue them in order on a sheet of paper. Printing off rainbow color sheets to entertain smaller children and perhaps have them glue glitter to the rainbow once it has been colored is a nice touch.

For little girls who are enjoying the party there can be a jewelry making time. Find colorful beads to string together necklaces, bracelets, and headbands. Make the string different colors as well and small enough for little fingers to thread through the beads without the use of needles.

With just a few small ideas the party can be turned into a huge success and parents and children will enjoy a fun filled rainbow day. Just remember to have fun, no stress, and take things as they come. A rainbow themed party really can invent itself with the right materials and ideas just thrown together.
